An electric fire alarm (EFA) system is an integral part of new structures, as its presence therein is prescribed by law. Even in cases where it is not required, it is worth considering whether it would be suitable to install an EFA system. A properly executed EFA project, including perfectly performed installation, can protect not only a building owner’s investment, but also the health and lives of the people in a building threatened by fire. Discounts on insurance for a building thus equipped comprise a significant source of cost savings. A standard element of an EFA system is its optical smoke detector. In dusty spaces it is possible to use different types of detectors, such as ionisation or thermodifferential detectors, which react to rapid increases in temperature in the monitored space. In addition to a siren, the alarm can be transmitted to the service building, centralised emergency services desk, or directly to the fire department.
In the event of an alarm, ELA systems close or, conversely, open various doors, thus ensuring open escape routes, etc.
